In March 2025, our co-founder Alexander Kriebitz presented the whitepaper “Promoting and Advancing Human Rights in Global AI Ecosystems: The Need for a Comprehensive Framework under International Law” at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
This whitepaper was the outcome of a collaborative effort involving the Institute of Ethics in AI, the Globethics Foundation, and researchers from Ludwig Maximilian University. The joint research aimed to uncover the extensive impact of artificial intelligence on international human rights law.
A key message of the whitepaper is the need to integrate AI considerations more prominently within corporate human rights responsibilities. It advocates initiating a global conversation on a United Nations Convention covering AI, data, and human rights. Furthermore, it calls for embedding human rights principles firmly within international AI standardization efforts.
iuvenal research supports this process and shares the view that AI represents a systemic paradigm shift for corporate human rights obligations. Existing human rights mechanisms must evolve to adequately reflect and address the new challenges posed by AI technologies, on the level of AI systems, but also in organizational practices such as regular risk assessments.
